1. The Methodist church has a definite method to its services, hence the name
2. The church is *becoming* gay-friendly
3. The church is very tolerant of women in positions of authority -- I've actually had three female Methodist ministers in my time in that church
4. They use grape juice in Communion
5. Alcohol is not denied, though it should not be abused
6. Methodists believed in a strict, conservative interpretation of the Bible, though that has been changing over the past decades
The primary reason I left the church is because the sermons were changing from what I call "make-you-think" sermons to "feel good" sermons. I like a sermon that makes me take stock of certain areas of my life and figure out what I can do to change them, rather than a preacher that stands up and says, "Love yourself and your neighbor -- everything will be fine and you'll have warm fuzzies." I now attend a non-denominational, Bible-believing and Bible-teaching church called Calvary Chapel (flash site). |
