Linux Laptops, longish and opinionated (as always) by wwill2004-12-21 11:35:22

sometimes you should cater to the mission and not the jihad.

Made no sense, eh?

If a person is windows-trained, goes to college using a linux box - they have to learn linux and it's apps and its foibles at the same time they are attending college for the first time - stress!

Not the nest time to be a linux newbie.

That said - if you wanna try it, go for it!

'Cept get a Knoppix CD. Use partition magic to make a large chunk on the HD as fat32 and don't put anything there, then tell knoppix to create a swap file and permanent home folder there. ;) Need about 2-5 gb, with 512mb as swap file.

Knoppix newbies should have someone configure this stuff for them, then instruct them in how to run knoppix with the proper parms to get this stuff to work.

Fun!

OR give them a blank laptop and a printed copy of LFS 5.0

(Linux From Scratch) - you download the source and compile it on the fly, building an entire distribution from source. Took me like 2 weeks to finish, working only in slack time at work. Training!
