Good hardware RAID cards have battery-backed buffered caches, meaning that as the system dies (ie. power goes out), it writes the last bit of info to disk and gracefully shuts down. That's an added bonus on top of good journalling filesystems for critical information. That's something that software RAID doesn't have in any way.
