Simple CDRX for burning but mandrake by celticess 2004-12-19 16:54:26
Has something built in. I forget what it was but it worked ok when I did it.

Yes 40G will be more than enough I have my gentoo on a 40G... Use the auto allocate feature. Because I run dual boot I actually have a small part of the 40G(about 8G) formatted in vfat so I can get at the files in both OS(It's automounted)... but I run gentoo which doesn't auto mount such things. Mandrake automounts any windows drives it see's on request.(ie click the directory and all the files are there with no special commands issued by the user)

XMMS is like winamp and it's default with mandrake..

Now as XMMS goes you can download some plugins for it. If you like eye candy I recommend Goom and Synathesia. Blursk is also quite pretty. XMMS like winamp will also do some video formats and ogg... heck it will even play sound files from video games.

I don't know your system stats to know if I should suggest a lighter player. But XMMS originally was a linux clone of winamp. They now have evolved seperate. What this means is when you get skins for it you can only use winamp classic skins. Also their plugins are seperate depending on OS. Other than that they look and act pretty much the same.

For videos you want to install mplayer or xine-ui. They should both be in mandrake as well. I think even ogle is in there. And yes they play quicktime.

For your browser you want to install ns-plugger(or anything "plugger"), mplayer plugin(it allows you to see quicktime and avi movies well), and you can also install realplayer(though I forget if that is in mandrake though helix player should be). You also can use java or just go to the netscape plugin page and search for the java plugin. Install the linux one and viola your ready to go. Though I think mandrake should have java in there somewhere.
