Why on earth does Linux have such a reputation for by NOLAWitch2004-12-19 14:15:40
Well first time I tried Nix it did feel by celticess 2004-12-19 14:27:10
a bit intimidating and it was mandrake 6.5 I used then. After a month or two on it it will seem less intimidating though. You'll wonder what the fuss was. For the console(like dos window) there are similar commands to what your used to. Only they come with extra's that dos doesn't have unless you make a rather huge macro.(even then some don't transfer over quite)

Such as to list files from the command line "ls -a --colour" will list them all in your local directory, including hidden, and will colourize them.(and you like in windows can make alias so for mine I just type "ls" and it does all that anyways... without need for the long command)

But a big advantage to linux next to it being more stable is. Well basically it's free and if you look there are alot of substitutes for what you used on windows anyways. Geeks are a determined lot and if they get fed up enough from crashes and lockups they find ways around it. But because some have to use both OS (work usually does that) they end up eventually porting things to other systems. That is why you can get xchat for windows along with gimp and xnview.
