  Games that rely on gameplay rather than technology by McNutcase 2004-12-19 03:08:59
Example: Doom 3 vs. Half-Life 2. Doom 3 is sold as the most technologically advanced game ever. The gameplay is crap. Half-Life 2 is sold as the sequel to one of the most addictive games ever - oh, and it's got loads of advanced technology too. Half-Life 2 has decided to stand or fall on gameplay; the technology is only important insofar as it affects gameplay (mind you, the pervasive physics improves gameplay no end), and the gameplay is GOOD. We need more of that. Eye candy is nice, but it's not what keeps you loading up savegames...
