anyone very familiar with hdsl? by darcknite 2004-12-15 18:29:32
I have questions that have so far gone unanswered by everyone in my group. The group being telecommunication techs at a major telephone company working with T1s T3s OCs ADSL SDSL HDSL IDSL ISDN...so on and so forth. However it seems as if certain inner workings are based on PFM. Pure Friggin' Magic. Here are two that are currently bothering me.
1. I send a loop code to a csu device as csu csu/e or csu/p.
there are definitions in place for the e and the p.
(((E requests codes be sent on ESF channel on units as listed in test options. (CSU & MU only)P requests codes be sent on Payload channel on CSU loopback.)))
What "channel" is the normal loop code traveling down?
2. If the answer to no.1 is diagnostic channel then this also explains this little tidbit. But, here is my question.
We were informed that constantly sending an all ones signal as a test pattern can be detrimental to the repeater cards on the circuit. (((I guess kinda like "burn in" for a computer. You should not do it everyday))) HOWEVER, this brings into light a very odd situation. Whenever the circuit has lost continuity it will begin an "all ones signal/\blue alarm/\AIS". Now my question is this. Is this a full T1 signal worth of all ones or just the diagnostic channel?
I have searched poked and prodded but I am either incapable of forming the correct google or no easy to obtain information is on this little knowledge. I mean it is not necessary knowledge to anyone except people in my profession. I personally was asked one day by a "customer" why he is not supposed to run all ones for more than 5 minutes because it might hurt something but he has ckts with "all ones signal" on them for weeks.
My immediate answer was that probably it is not a full T1 worth of ones but in fact a "signal".
I realize this is kinda out there question but I would love to know the answer to it.
Thanks in advance.
