  There was an excellent article in a 3D Magazine by hieraco 2004-12-15 15:53:12
a few months back I don't know If I can find it as I moved between then and now.
Whups, just found it. It was Keyframe magazine, Siggraph issue. In it they explain how to model and light aircraft to match a background picture. Using Lightwave or equivelent package you could create your own aircraft attack scene and even annimate it.
