My major was Industrial Engineering. I do not currently work as an industrial engineer; I'm a sysadmin.

I do however use a lot of the skills and techniques I learned in engineering. Signal propagation, queueing theory, project management, systems theory, ergonomics, scheduling, and technical and business writing all directly impact my job duties.

Many of the other disciplines I studied in school taught problem solving skills, deductive and ionductive reasoning, how to develop and test a hypothesis, and the like. The lab sciences taught me how to sit down with an unfamiliar piece of equipment and a manual and end up with some kind of a useful result.

So, Does my job title reflect my major, no. Do I use what I learned in college, most definately yes.
