| Messed up with an important point. |

The second example which makes it more complex:
Hi/Lodef TV.
Some outputs only take lodef, some outputs take hidef, some can take either.
Some (most) inputs are lodef, some (at least one) are hidef.
The router can route both types of signal fine.
We have some up converters and downconverters cntected to spare outputs, and their output is connected to spare inputs.
If a lodef source needs to send to a hidef output, it must be looped through an upconverter, and vice versa for a hidef->lodef.
Then the worst thing. The Hidef/Lodef button. One output changes it's type depending on if you have one button on some control head pushed. It's normally a lodef output ( so the hidef sources need converting) but push it and suddenly it's hidef (and the lodefs need upconverting)
This makes things hugely more complicated. At least to me it does. My brain is mush today.
Blah.
