Why do law professors think by niwikki2004-12-15 11:15:05

which eliminates access to anything but the exam program

and it records everything you attempt to access during the exam (including all background system functions that decide to launch without your consent while the exam is going on).

so for our open book / open note exams, all materials need to be printed. It kinda sucks, but it's helpful to have the paper in front of you.

Plus it removes the element of "who can search on $term fastest?" ... you actually have to be organized in your notes with my school's type of open note exams.

You still have to understand the concepts well enough to organize them in a way you can find them quickly. The exams are short enough that there really isn't time to reference your notes all the time. People who have memorized everything are definitely at an advantage, even in open note exams.

However, some of us end up drawing complete blanks with half the exam time left. That's when it's useful to have the open notes -- to find those 1-2 things you need in order to analyze another 10-15 items to take up the remaining 1.5 hours...
