Why do law professors think by niwikki2004-12-15 11:15:05

The one open book exam I had was just nasty. by AndyA 2004-12-15 12:16:06
Since it was open book the questions were just nasty.

The bulk of my exams we had a folder full of data books supplied. The books covered nearnly all the standard equations, tables, functions etc. with one or two missing so that they could ask you to calculate them if they wanted to.

Plus in engineering the exam should be testing how you think not what you have memorised or can look up. I've yet to actually use anything I learnt and uni. in a real world situation but I did learn how to approach a problem and that has been vital.

Law is much the same, if they want you to give real world answers you would need an open book exam. If they want to see how you think and approach a subject then they closed book is fine.
The most pointless type of exam is one that tests your memory and nothing else.
