I don't understand why I don't seem to be getting any better. I've been playing this for almost as long as it's been out. The only time I seem to have an advantage is with opposing players that only have a few days of experience. When they get more than about 6 or 7 rounds under their belt, they beat the crap out of me.
I've tried different styles: CHARGE - and die. Hang back and get charged - and die. Sneak up - and die. If I'm defending, I may as well not be there for all the slowing down I'm able to do. If I'm attacking, I may as well hit my head against a stone wall for all the effect I have. My kill:death ratio rarely rises above .5 and I'm usually the one with the most deaths at the end of each map. I mimic the techniques of the more sucessfull players (e.g. jumping and dancing around) and it's like I have a string between my head and their muzzle - I may as well be standing still. When trying to shoot someone who's 'dancing', I land about every fourth round while they're landing every other or string 2 or 3 in a row on me. I can't seem to find the right combination - and I've been playing almost every night for months! It's not my machine (3GHz P4 with 512MB and an ATI Radion 9200) or my ping (usually in the 50's & 60's).
And the smaller the numbers on the server, the worse I seem to be. Some still manage to get experience enough to make General while I can't even get to Lieutenant when it's only 2v2.
I've made Colonel several times, but only when it's at least 4v4 or better. If I manage to make it early (like the 5th map in a campaign) I get stuck because one or more of the opposing team is already at General (and the rest are Majors or better) and when I switch classes to try to advance, I get my butt beat.
I'm so frustrated..............................................
I hear of people that have beaten various FPS' on each level of difficulty - even my youngest grandson (he's 8) has beaten "Painkiller" on its hardest level - I can barely get half-way through it on its "Don't hurt me..." level.
Maybe I should quit playing since I get so frustrated? I don't know. I enjoy the game, I just don't understand why I plateu at such a low level.
</rant> (or should that be </whine>?)
Thanks for listening.... |
