Medical Technologist... by perljammer2004-12-14 19:59:31
My wife is a medical technologist... by webishop 2004-12-14 20:41:40
or a clinical laboratory scientist (to use another term). What Med Techs do is run the tests on the samples your doctor draws from your body (or has drawn for him). If you have a sore throat, the doc might run a swab through you mouth and send it to the lab. My wife spends most of her time running tests on blood. Testing for antibodies, tests for type, tests for unusual cell types, all the different things that might be wrong or right with a given blood sample. She also will run type and antibody screen tests on units of blood for transfusions.

So when the doc says you need to have some tests done, a Med Tech is the person doing the tests, and telling the doctor what is wrong with you. Quite often, this is exactly how it happens.

To get a CA license, and the certs my wife has is almost like getting a Masters degree.
