Are you in a very dry area? Despite what people say it's actually fairly hard to kill electronics with static. After 6 years of minimal anti-static precautions in the lab I've yet to have a single system failure due to static. Boards get carried by hand all other the building without any precautions. Wrist straps are only worn when working on things that will go into beta or shipping units, anything that is staying in engineering we don't worry about. The only time I've had a hard failure from static was using a static gun to hit a device with 20 15kV shocks a second.
