I asked: "Why aren't you ignoring the sin of the people you think are judging others?"
You responded: "Becuase I'm not Christian So I don't care what the bible teaches and I'll point out hypocrasy and persecution within the church."
I understand that you don't consider yourself bound to follow Christian teachings. To that extent, you answered my question.
But I'd like to point out that you just contradicted yourself. Pointing out hypocrisy is a matter of saying, "You say one thing and do another." Or, "You teach X is wrong, but you do X." So you do care what the Bible teaches--it forms the entire basis of your accusation. You think Christians aren't following the Bible--so you have to defend your interpretation.
Frankly, the way you're interpreting Jesus' teachings is just wrong. Obviously so. Remaining silent on sin is not something that is taught or done anywhere in the Bible--Jesus didn't teach it, he didn't do it, and neither did anyone else. Repeating what the Bible says about sin is not "deciding what is sin."
I think the easiest way to understand "judge not lest ye be judged" is to look at the case of the crowd trying to stone the woman. Jesus didn't criticize the crowd for calling adultery sin--doing that is just repeating what the Bible says. Instead, he stopped them from attacking her--you're right in that. And then he lovingly admonished and encouraged her to stop sinning.
If your argument is over homophobes who attack gay people or treat them as unclean, dirty things, then you're right. They're being hypocrites, and utterly failing to follow Jesus' example. An attitude of moral superiority is indeed condemned in the Bible. But upholding objective moral principles is commanded.
Re: Incest
If God specially made spouses to avoid the incest problem, the Bible doesn't tell us about it. That's fine--no one claims that the Bible is an exhaustive record. If he didn't, then we infer that incest must not have been a problem. That's also fine--the command against incest didn't come till much later, so there's no moral inconsistency. |
