the classic mini has gone through many stages and BMW designing one could have been the next stage they did two things very wrong. Firstly the way they aquired the legal ownership to the MINI name. They bought Rover, took the MINI name and through rover back to the dogs. More importantly with the car. They tried to create a vehicle that was considerably more practical than the original but they failed, it is more practical but only slightly more so. The original and every variation of was a cheap motor available to everyone, the BINI is an expensive yuppie/guppie car that the average person cannot afford. It is everything the original mini is not.
And what really takes the p*ss? They designed the suspension originally to have the car react like a an original mini but they decided this was not the target audiance they were aiming for. It is basically a luxury car! The original was, is and always will be an icon. BMW even funded a film to try and make it more popular!
Oh and a 5mph crash will cost you something like $5000 in repairs and most insurance claims are from 5mph crashes!
I am sure it is a very nice car, same as other very nice cars. It however is not a mini. You'll probably find this is a british thing, I know alot of brits who agree, I noticed in the states that it is considered a fun a quirky car. Get yourself an original, you can buy shells now and work from there up. Buy the shell, get a honda engine and start crankin.... |
