A Canadian Pastor arrested for reading the bible? by glitch2004-12-14 07:45:08
Not a word of it by TrogL 2004-12-14 13:59:32
I follow this issue very, very closely. If it had occured I would have heard through contacts on both sides of the issue.

I suspect this is pure FUD.

What has probably happened is somebody in the US read about the Canadian Supreme Court decision about gay marriage. Imbedded in that decision is a statement that no church would be required to marry people they didn't want to - nothing new.

When I was involved in the gay marriage debates, one after another religious types would get up and say that they would be forced to marry people, EVEN THOUGH THE PROPOSED LAW SAID THE EXACT OPPOSITE, just to make ink in the newspapers.

Be that as it may, if said religious person got up and started quoting Leviticus about putting gays to death he'd be in the hoosegow in no time just as if he quoted the passage about putting adulturers to death.

Yes, there is such a thing as a hate crime. You cannot get up in a public place and announce "death to gays". Get over it.

Note, however, that is not "any religious materials". That's where the FUD comes in.
