Gack, is this it? (computer hardware questions) by psychoi3oy 2006-11-19 12:55:59
I've come to terms with the fact that I need a new motherboard and/or power supply to fix the problems with 3.3v in my current system. I have an antec 400w PSU and an asus a7v8x motherboard (and other stuff listed in my diary) and am currently borrowing a friend's GF4Ti4800.

this is my wishlist probably going to be purchased within the next week or 2. I could even do without the ram, but my intentions with the existing stuff is to upgrade my wife's computer, since she won't notice the voltage problem (with the rage128 I had been using; no real games for her) and a 1.1ghz processor and 256mb of ram is a far sight better than her current 450mhz/128mb. I'd still need a case to assemble this stuff for her, but may be able to cobble one together.

With a budget of ~$150US, (slightly over in this case at ~$180) does this look like the best bang-for-the buck I'm going to get for new motherboard and PSU? I'm not tied to the antec brand, and if there's a cheaper but just as reliable manufacturer available from newegg, I'll happily go for it. The motherboard was chosen soley on chipset, I have firewire and SATA now but don't use either, so no loss there.

suggestions? comments? marsupials? -- leaving work now, will check back in ~1hr
