There's no question that America is the more globally influential country, particularly economically and militarily, and therefore globally. Culturally too -- American culture is widespread thanks to the power of the media.
But none of these are necessarily admirable things in the human matrix. To further them isn't necessarily for the good of the world. Perhaps for the good of the U.S.
Canadians are willing to pay as well -- in fact, Canada is IIRC the one nation that has participated in every U.N. peacekeeping mission to date. This suggests that we're ready to support something ever greater than our own nation: the entire world.
For all of our faults, Canadians can at least claim that we as a nation try very hard to be as inclusive as possible. |
