A small chrystaline entity that was discovered on (in?) a supposedly uninhabited planet. It was upset that there were laser drills destroying its envrionment (a layer of salty liquid at some distance below the surface). At one point it (they?) were controlling the laser drill in an attempt to cut Data in half.

This term was 'voiced' when the Enterprise's computer was able to translate its communications attempts.

One other detail of that episode that I remember was when one of the engineers on the planet saw Data for the first time: He immediately looked at Data's hands - as recognition of the engineering complexity involved in creating a robotic hand.
