Is an "Eye for an Eye" outdated though? by BuggedEyes 2004-12-14 10:42:13
The original intent of the incarceration system in the U.S. was to redeem convicted felons of their tendencies and show them how to become productive members of society. The fact that the original way of doing it was intensive brainwashing and religious indoctrination as well as torture is kinda interesting though only a side-note to this argument.

The current system doesn't work, as evinced by the fact that there are more people and crimes per capita than there were before the current punishment/incarceration system was installed. Instead of a society oriented on revenge and blood, could a society more oriented towards salvation (non religious kind) of the criminals be a safer place?
