Because my company cannot see past giving 8 paid holidays each year, we cannot have New Year's Eve off. Never mind that all of our customers are off that day. It doesn't hurt me too much--it will be a day I could sit around and play computer games since I am salaried. But for those hourly folks who only get paid when they are on job assignments (such as field chemists), they are screwed. There is no work for them and no holiday pay either.

But we do get January 3rd off because that is New Year's Day observed here.
