It's outlines a legal system, and it conflicts largely with many of the things that came both prior and later. It's a legal code that worked its way in, or was put in so people would belive it was divine. Though similar can be said for a lot of the old testement, the New Testement, atleast has a chance of being the word of god, things like Liviticus, and heck the flood and all that... have a hard time beliving thats anything more then just legends or stories that got added in.
