Q. for gays and lesbians here... by Illiad 2004-12-14 09:11:21
I've heard a plethora of synonyms for being gay, from "queen" to "queer" to "dyke" to, well...you get the idea. Some of the words seem innocuous and some seem derogatory. But I've noticed their usage to be quite inconsistent.

Is the meaning (derogatory or not) based on the word itself or the intent behind the word? Is it like some cultures where the pejorative is used with immunity by the members of that culture?

Please help this hetero understand. :)
