of these gay rights debates, unless Canada gets hit by some Crazy Ray(tm) I don't think it would ever happen here. Canadians are more laid back on most issues, even these debates over gay rights have been quite tame compared to the recent US political campaigns I've seen. There is no way a preacher simply quoting from the bible itself in his own church could be considered a hate crime. It would have to be pretty blatant, a call for his congregation to go out and harm gays, etc.
