here in the UK there have been continual reviews of cases. The Bentley and Craig debate crops up periodically, The A1 murderer has been conclusively proved the murderer by DNA evidence taken 40 years ago.

I am forced to wonder if this "large fraction" of mis-carriages of justice you mention is as many as the "collateral damage" victims in Iraq over the past couple of years. Nobody seems too bothered about a bomb or rocket landing on a school and killing a bunch of kids but people get up in arms over a murderer being sent to his death.
