Exterior AFCI protection? by glitch 2004-12-14 08:24:39
So is it possible to get exterior AFCI protection? Due to my christmas tree not being visible to the outside, and to save on my power bill a little, and since my Christmas tree is real, I'm going to turn the lights off to it at night. The only lights I want to leave on all night are exterior lights.

They rest up against a stone wall, the exterior of the townhouse. The wreath rests up against glass. However the wreath does have fake pines or whatever, but there's nothing in the immediate area that's flammable, all outside patio furniture is metal with no cloth or anything. Stone floors, no carpeting.

The outside outlet has these protectors that snap over the outlet when not in use, so the outlet is not exposed. You have to bend back the cover (it's on a hinge) and plug in the lights.

My townhouse was built in 1983, so it probably doesn't have AFCI protection. Is there an external AFCI device I can purchase to plug in between the lights and the wall outlet?
