Death Penalty by BuggedEyes2006-11-19 12:55:59
The death penalty is indefensible. by mmell 2004-12-14 08:00:26
IMHO, it amounts to state-sponsored murder.

Never mind the number of innocent men (fifty-three during the twentieth century, I think?) whose innocence was established post mortem, even where guilt is absolutely certain this still amounts to murder.

The intentional taking of a human life by the judgement of humans is morally reprehensible. Even in extreme cases (such as Nazi war criminals), there can be no justification for the taking of human life. The authority of the state is not sufficient justification, else the Nazis wouldn't be war criminals as they had the sanction of a sovereign state.

Unfortunately, we have yet to grow beyond the need for retribution.
