What has been your most arcane technical skill? by run.dll2004-12-12 16:22:03
  I suppose I have several by inittab 2006-11-19 12:55:59
For instance:
  • multi-state device control programming
directly in hardware - using ladder-logic diagrams,
and implimenting directly with 110-volt relays.
This, from my days as industrial electrician.
  • operating a dual trace ocilliscope.
  • programming most anything on VAX/VMS.
  • Being pretty darn good with DCL script programming (again, VAX)
  • remembering many of the O/S level commands for a PDP-11/70
  • knowing how to get around in CP/M or MP/M (predecessors to DOS)
  • remembering some instructions in 360/370 ASSM
  • knowing many ANSI cursor control codes for a real VT105 ESC[1m
  • ability to program TRS-80 level2 basic (haven't used that in a while)
  • ability to program IBM 5120 basic (don't want to use that again)
  • who here remembers DBase-II from Aston Tate, on 8088 CPU?
