He had to take injections and had at one point went into a diabetic coma(its when he was first hit with diabetes). He is "cured" from having a gastric bi pass surgery. Amazingly enough he doesn't take injections anymore and can eat many things(though he said he had to modify somethings and it's like that atkins now almost)
