| Weird browser complaints... |

Okay. Complaint number one, in a script I wrote recently, and only tested in Mozilla -- there is a function that generates a link that looks like:
http://www.domain.com/cgi-bin/script.cgi?choice=whatever®_id=NUM
This works just *FINE* in all Mozilla-based browsers. But in the retardedness that is MIE, it freaking translates the URL as an escaped HTML string! So it takes the '®' part of the URL, and turns it into the registered trademark symbol (®)! Isn't that like *COMPLETELY* against the W3C standards?
Weird complaint number two, my Mozilla-based browsers (Netscape, Opera, Mozilla, Firefox) refuse to display animated GIFs as animated. I *CANNOT* figure out what the problem is. I disabled Zone Alarm -- just to make sure, I don't run any anti-virus that could be causing any problems. I triple checked that I didn't have any settings in the browsers turned on to stop animations, including the about:config which is set to normal for animations. I even downloaded the "animation stop" Firefox extension, in an attempt to enable the animations, and nothing.
The animations were also broken in MIE, but then I switched the file association of GIFs from the default Windows "Picture and Fax Viewer" to Animation Shop from JASC, and now the animations work fine in MIE. All of my security is up to date, and I did a virus sweep online using McAfee free-scan, and nothing turned up. As a last result I uninstalled all Mozilla-based browsers, then re-installed them, and still no go. Any ideas? Any and all help would be appreciated. This is driving me crazy. |
