We bought a "portable" airconditioner today. We can't get a proper reverse-cycle split system because we're only in a rental property and can't be bothered dealing with the landlady about it... this system just has a pipe thing that you send out a window, and comes with some kind of method of blocking out the rest of the window so you can keep all the cold air inside. We can't wait to get it... Delivery on Tuesday. Shame that Monday is forecast to be another hot and humid day..... at least we had a cool, very noisy storm this afternoon.
I now have my computers set up at Val_Parthen's place, along with most of my other essential stuff. We have to be moved completely out by Christmas. My other two flatmates have found a very nice house with a pool. I am SO asking for a set of keys over the summer ;)
So today I woke up and decided I needed to check the contents of my "spare" 40gb drive, to see if there's space to install an OS of some kind, so I don't have to boot off a live CD all the time. I have almost 40gb of multimedia on there from a friend, but I don't have space for the drive in my box (stoopid ibm) so I'd like to just keep it in my other box, so I can still access it....
But instead of opening up benden (the ibm) and hooking up the other drive in a makeshift fashion (which I've done before) I decided to install debian on my OTHER spare drive (a 20gb maxtor)! This was with the intension of then hooking the 40gb in as a slave and mounting it to see what space there is.
Lots of fun ensued ;)
Right now, I'm watching a win2k install on the 20gb drive in that machine. I'm suspecting hardware problems, and since both v_p and I are more confident in windows at the moment, we're going to try some diagnosing this way first.
I AM intending to install various flavours of linux on benden over the next few weeks, once I've had time to copy my data onto one of the other drives in the house........
*rubs hands together excitedly*
Ok, I shall return you to your regularly scheduled program now. |
