Was that in the book? If I remember the movie correctly, it was privately ignored as well, except for the comment, after Elle (not sure if that's her name; I'm going by the crossthread article) was sent out of the room at the end of the movie. I'm awful with quotes, but I believe the quote that was given was something like: "The tape recorded static." "So?" "It record eight hours of static." But Elle was not privy to this, and thus, as far as she's aware, there is no corroborating evidence.
