It's been about five years since I've seen the movie.

Anyway, I'm aware of the difference, and the book makes more sense, from what I've heard.

IIRC, Elle's claim that she was sent through some type of wormhole is dismissed using Occam's Razor, just as she dismisses the existence of god through the same reasoning. So I'd say that she finds out something interesting about spirituality.
