Is there a respect for the "fine arts?" by da-gimp2006-11-19 12:55:59

The Music Man, because that's what I started with, so far as that particular musical was concerned.

I went on from there to see a couple different stage performances of it, and also be in a performance in my hometown among a cast of 113. Yes, we had the equivalent of a small town on stage. ... Severely overbalanced with the adult women on the cast, however, so in our background talking we would discuss the great farming accident of '06 that killed all the men.

However, the movie version of that could never be called crap.
At least not the original movie version. I didn't see the recent remake with Matthew Broderick.

Here's some more examples of movie versions of stage shows that weren't crap:
Chicago
um...

I'll think of more, I'm sure of it. :)

I think it's probably the equivalent of having movies made out of books. Lots of movies made from books REALLY suck in comparison to the book. But when it comes down to it, a heck of a lot of good movies also started out as books. You can't judge whether a movie is going to be good based entirely on the source material. There are too many other contributing factors.
