It was written with a live audience in mind and should stay that way. Phantom is the most technologically advanced show on Broadway (at least it was 3 years ago). It had some very awesome effects, some of which I didn't know were possible to do on a stage in front of an audience. These effects are standard fare in movies and won't really invoke emotion like they do on stage.
