You don't need Gary Gygax to teach you how to play D&D. In fact, frequently the designers, while well-intentioned, don't always understand how players actually learn the game. A bit like engineers knowing how something works without knowing how to tell someone else how to use it.
I've been playing D&D for over 20 years, most of my life, in fact. I've played as a player and as a GM. I've taught other people how to play, and I've played with all kinds of players. When I decide to run a campaign, I get more players than I can personally take on, because people seem to enjoy being in my games. I may not publish modules or game books, but I'm as qualified to write a book titled D&D for Dummies as anybody out there. |
