OS dependence of a virus by run.dll2004-12-06 16:04:03
Not really by johnnyh 2004-12-06 16:12:33
As a rule, virii are OS-specific. A Windows virus will not run on a Linux box just as a Windows program will not run on a Linux box.

Two exceptions come to mind, and even these I am not 100% certain about. Macro virii could, theoretically, work cross-platform since a, say, Word macro should run the same whether Word is running on Windows or on Mac. The second possible exception would occur when using emulators. A Linux box using Wine or VMWare may be susceptible to Windows virii, though these would not actually affect the OS itself.
