Insomnia by oot2004-12-06 11:25:02

most melatonin suplaments don't even melatonin in them. The fact that melatonin is released at night has nothing to do with sleep, as it is released at night by nocturnal animals as well. In short, melatonin probably won't do much to help you sleep.

Otherwise, I would recomend getting up on time and making sure you exersize during the day. Eating right helps too. And don't lie in bed if your not sleeping, that just makes it worse. After a good half hour or so, if you are just as awake as before, take a walk or something.

I was having problems falling asleep, sometimes till the sun came up. I tried all th usuall nonsense that people perscribe. I refused to take pills. I saw a sleep therapist (yes they have such things) and she told me I had a sleep disorder called dealayed phase sleep syndrome. Basically it makes you fall asleep later then everyone else, even though you still need the same amount of sleep, which you don't get if you have to get up in the mornnig. Turns out she was wrong, and I wasn't sleeping because of my &%$#@*& roomate from hell, but the syptoms were the same, namely, I wasn't sleeping well, but once I fell asleep I was out for 8 hours. If this has been going on for a while, you might want to see a doctor about it.
Good luck!
