      time of day != safety by DesertRat66 2004-12-06 12:17:29
One acquaintance while in the process of moving into his new house noticed his basement motion sensor kept triggering. With L.E. response 90 minutes away at best he implemented the immediate action drill. Turn out he ended up confronting an ambassador of the great unwashed rifling through the boxes in his basement. He secured the intruder while his wife called authorities. The individual was wanted on several warrants to include armed robbery, assault, and was wanted for questioning about a murder in a distant (but same jurisdiction) city.

The time 1:30 in the afternoon. Police response time 120 minutes.

As for the chances of shooting a pizza man, kid, cat etc. Only if you fail to follow the rules (i.e. Identify your target and know what is beyond!) is such an occurance likely to happen. This is one of the main reasons that the majority of firearms used for home defense have a means for mounting a light.
