802.11b is probably fine. If she plans to do a lot of filesharing over her LAN, go with 802.11g....5 times the throughput. Also, I suggest setting up the AP with 128-bit WEP encryption and to only allow certain MAC addresses to connect. I know WEP isn't perfect, but it's better than nothing. I'd hate to see anybody doing nasty things over her Internet connection without her knowledge.
