Question for gun UFies: by nedludd2004-12-06 10:14:04

the nomenclature can be confusing, but the bullet diameters are usually the same. I can safely fire a .38 Special round in a .357 Magnum, and a .44 Special in a .44 Magnum. However both the .357 Magnum and .44 Magnum use longer cases to prevent loading a magnum round in a non-magnum gun. If you've never witnessed a Revolver KB, trust me you don't want to! I used to load a .38 Special round that pushed a 158gr lead bullet at 1100fps (magnum velocity) for competition use in my .357 Magnum Defense/Duty/Competiton gun. When I got my first .38 Special Revolver (inherited it) I discontinued that practice. Any .38 rounds that I find not marked will either get disassembled or fired through my .357.
