It had most of the OS in ROM, and loaded modules (DLL's to you lot) from the HDD.
My hard disc was slower than a slow think trying to chase a snail (it *was* a 20MB MFM drive), but it'd still boot in under 15 secs.
On the other hand, has it occurred to you that to watch TV perhaps the best device would be a television. And to watch DVDs, a DVD player?
I daresay if you wanted to dabble in the illicit, you could chip an XBox, pop on XBox Media Centre, and BitTorrent all the TV you want to watch... Did I say BitTorrent? I meant Blockbuster - yes, that's right...
