| ...is that the article specifically states the White House approves of -- or if you will, endorses -- this book. What makes this situation something of a grey area is the fact that the Grand Canyon is a national park, public land under the jurisdiction of the federal government. Regardless of GWB's personal feelings in the matter, any endorsement of this book by him in his official capacity of President rather than as a private citizen could be seen as an attempt to impose his Judeo-Christian religious beliefs on others who do not share his views -- a very subtle and indirect attempt, certainly, but nonetheless a problematic one.
I for one do not necessarily see a problem with this book being offered for sale in the bookstore of a national park -- nor do I even see GWB endorsing this book as a private citizen. Do I have a problem with him endorsing this book under his official status as President? Yes, I do. |
