It is less likely to cause an instinctive "S**t" reaction from the tailgater, whilst still sending a "get back" message.
If that doesn't work (usually doesn't - tailgaters are stupid as well as incompetant and arrogant), I just gradually slow down, hardly braking at all, just let the engine braking effect wash off speed, until I'm going slow enough that I can deal with his stopping distance as well as my own.
All assuming that I can't move out the way. If I can safely, I will (even if that means pulling onto the hard shoulder). If you're an idiot driver, I'd rather have you well away from me. Go on your way, and good luck. |
