I can tell you from experience, having been rear-ended. I was in the left lane passing a block of cars when some moron came flying up behind me, tailgating so closely that I couldn't see his headlights anymore. So I tapped my brakes, and he couldn't react in time.
The damage to his car was much worse than my truck, and technically it was "my fault" since I intentionally caused an accident (in retrospect, I'm thankful no one was hurt, and the little bump could've turned into something much worse, so I can't say I'd ever do that again). The police officer didn't even ask why I pressed my brakes -- thats completely irrelevant. If you run into somebody from behind, 100% of the blame is assigned to you automatically.
He got a ticket for following too close, had to pay my insurance deductable, and was STILL late for work. The moral? Don't be a moron. |
