Baseball has fewer players on a side, as I remember; so fewer positions to know. The cycle of activity is more regular, and the games are much shorter (one to four hours, as opposed to one to five or so days for cricket).
Does baseball involve more of a "show of strength" than cricket? Probably, in general; cricket involves less "hitting the ball a long way" than it does "hitting the ball where the defenders aren't". That's not to say that there isn't a great deal of defensive activity and strategy going on; there is quite a bit. Over the last several years, however, baseball seems to have undergone an increase in emphasis on offensive strength. (This is probably because people have become more interested in individual feats of strength than in team play - besides, it's easier to video-clip on TV.) |
