S2000 was just a little more than I wanted to spend (very fun to test drive, though!). RX8 wasn't out (or wasn't available in significant quantities) at the time. My other options were a Mazda Miata, Acura RSX Type S.
I ended up with the Acura RSX Type S - it was about 10K US cheaper than the S2000, has the same 200 HP engine, a fairly tight ratio six-speed manual tranny, and a nice sport suspension. The RSX also has a bit more interior room and a hard top. Down here in Houston, TX, it is a rare day that one would actually want to drive with one's top down.
