My girlfriend's parents are remodeling much of their house,
and we've been helping do the work for a significant part
by going over there some weekends.
So now we're doing the kitchen...
1) spend a few weeks making measurements, plans, budget
2) taking out all of the old cabinets
3) removing some wall sections, and moving doors to change layout
4) adding electrical lines from breaker and some different plumbing
5) laying ceramic tile instead of linoleum
::FUN_PART::
6) Bringing out the table saw & power tools, to build an entire
set of custom cabinets from scratch - with nearly twice times as
much usable storage space as the old cabinets, because of good
design, and efficient use of the room we have. Since we are doing
all the work outselves, and being creative about materials, we
will have a full set of custom cabinets for $450.USD that would
cost over $7000 to have any one else build & install.
... so that's why I say "woodworking" merit badge.
Note: I have the basic layout of these cabinets drawn up in
a "Word" document, if anyone is interested... |
